About Information Literacy

In support of competencies recognized by higher education, the Library Department promotes proficiency in information literacy.

Information literacy is defined as the ability to recognize when information is needed and to locate, evaluate, effectively use, and communicate information in its various formats.

As part of a campus-wide initiative, Library faculty collaborate with classroom faculty to integrate information literacy experiences into teaching and learning.  The Department offers information literacy curriculum-based instruction sessions and credit-bearing courses; faculty workshops; and individual assistance to help students, faculty, administrators, and staff meet their ongoing academic and lifelong information needs.
