Turning an Idea into a Research Topic

Unfortunately, not every idea makes a good research topic.

A good research topic:

• Raises a question that can be answered by research.
• Has sufficient useful material available.
• Is often a question on which sides can be taken.
• Is specific enough to allow appropriate coverage in a paper.
  

The first step is to learn more about your topic in a general way.
This is known as gathering background information.
