The Historical New York Times contains a wealth of information. Here are some tips for searching by date and/or subject.


Searching by Subject

Finding Information by Subject

  • Select Advanced Search
  • Use the multiple search boxes provided to specify the information you need. For example, if you want to find information about the construction of Nassau Community College, you would enter:

  • And then hit search. Please notice that you do NOT use full sentences when searching the databases. You enter only your Keywords.
  • Once you are viewing your results, you have options on the left to limit by date and/or document type. For example, I may limit the date range 1950-1980 (then click update) and limit to articles (then click update).

  • Click on the abstract to preview the article and the title to open up a full-text view.

  • Once you are viewing the PDF, you have options to cite, save, email & print the article on the right side of the page.
