Public service professionals provide important assistance to a community, and as a result, they need specialized knowledge and training. This guide is designed to provide college resources from career assistance to tech support and beyond.
The SUNY Undergraduate Research Conference (SURC) is a multidisciplinary spring semester event. SURC brings together undergraduate students and faculty mentors from across the SUNY system for a full day of activities, including sessions devoted to student presentations (oral, performance, artistic displays, and poster), luncheon, keynote speakers, a SUNY Graduate School and Career Fair, and professional development workshops for students and faculty
CUR is an organization of individual, institutional, and affiliate members from around the world. CUR members share a focus on providing high-quality and collaborative undergraduate research, scholarly, and creative activity opportunities for faculty and students.
Campus Compact is the largest and oldest higher education association dedicated to higher education civic and community engagement. Our members make up a force of thousands of presidents, faculty, researchers, students, and civic and community engagement experts at colleges and universities.
The Civic Learning and Democracy Engagement Coalition (CLDE Coalition) was created by higher education and policy organizations in response to the serious challenges facing democracy at home and abroad. CLDE Coalition is accelerating the spread of college civic learning, providing evidence on “what works,” and building educational and policy leadership for the movement.
SUNY is committed to civic engagement as an essential outcome of higher education. As part of this commitment, ten faculty and staff from SUNY campuses were selected as Civic Education and Engagement and Civil Discourse Fellows in March 2024.
The Fellows are working to:
Gather and amplify civic engagement resources for faculty to use when developing content to meet general education requirements, provide civic engagement professional learning opportunities for faculty and staff, participate in a working group to make recommendations for a new core competency in the SUNY General Education Framework, coordinate with campus student government representatives on civic engagement activities, develop a community of practice focused on civic engagement, contribute to a civic education convening to showcase SUNY activities, inform a civic engagement strategic plan.
The work of the Fellows is part of a broader set of actions announced in June 2024 by SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr. to advance SUNY's commitment to increase civic education, civil discourse, and civic awareness and participation across SUNY campuses.
