About the Authors
Winona Guo and Priya Vulchi met in high school and quickly realized that they shared similar experiences of being victimized by racial ignorance in an America that seemed unware of the limitations of its own racial narrative and the pain caused by the prejudices, both overt and subtle, that this narrative helps to perpetuate. Guo and Vulchi, while still secondary students, created the student-led non-profit organization called Choose, dedicated to promoting racial literacy. Recognizing the classroom as a great place to promote diversity and racial healing, they developed a textbook that they titled The Classroom Index (funded by Princeton University) which provides classroom tools for teaching racial literacy and taking up the challenge of introducing the topic of race in the classroom. They have inspired a consortium of dedicated educators who now contribute to Choose.org.
