Reading eBooks

The easiest way to read an EBSCO eBook is to view it through a web browser. 

Most eBooks have digital rights management software that control use of ebooks.  To use ebooks with individual devices, you must follow the instructions on this page to insure best access. 

Searching the EBSCO ebook collection on your device makes downloading easier. Generally, you will need the Adobe Digital Editions app to authorize the reader.

Compatible Devices

EBSCO eBooks are compatible with the following:

  • Desktop Computers
  • iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch
  • Android Phones and Tablets
  • eBook Readers that support Adobe DRM

EBSCO eBooks can be downloaded to your mobile device and read with the free Adobe Digital Editions reader app.

You will need the following:

  • Adobe Digital Editions App (Installed on your Apple or Android device)
  • An Adobe ID
  • Safari Web Browser (Apple device users)
  • My EBSCOhost account (free)

Instructions below:

  1. Download the Adobe Digital Editions App from the device's app store
  2. Create an Adobe ID and authorize Digital Editions App
  3. Find your library and sign in to access their collection
  4. Search and browse to find the titles you're interested in
  5. Download an eBook by clicking on the "Full Download" link on the search result page or from within the detailed record
  6. Select your preferred Borrow period from the drop-down menu
  7. The eBook is added to the Checkout area of your My EBSCOhost folder and begins to download to your device
  8. Begin reading the title in the app, bookmark your place for later, and return it to the library's collection when finished

Working With EBSCO eBooks

Once you search for EBSCO eBooks, each title will allow different options. Depending on the title, the options are:

  1. Read the PDF Full Text on your computer
  2. Download the EPUB Full Text to your device
  3. Full Download to your device
  4. Browse the Table of Contents and review a chapter

EBSCOhost Account

You must create a free EBSCO account to download a book. 


Once the loan period is up, you will no longer have access to your EBSCO ebook.
