Jewish Studies: Books in Other Libraries

Books from SUNY Schools

To locate books about Jewish communities in other countries, search the SUNY Union catalog, or the library catalog of a specific SUNY school, such as Stony Brook University.  You can take out books from any SUNY library with your NCC ID card or request a book from NCC's interlibrary loan service.

Try keyword searches such as Jews and ____ (enter the country).

Here are some examples.

Using Academic Libraries

NCC participates in the Research Loan Program. With an RLP card, you may go to another participating library and borrow a particular book or search for other books in that subject.

You must have the call number of one book to obtain the card. Database privileges vary among libraries.

Cards are good for one month and you must return the item(s) to the Library from which you borrowed them.

Speak to a Reference Librarian at the Informations Commons Help Desk for more information.

Books from the Public Library

To locate books about Jewish communities in other countries , search the Nassau Public Libraries online catalog.  Do a keyword search for Jews and ____ (country).

If your branch does not own the book, you can go to the branch that does, or request a book through NCC's interlibrary loan service or your home library's ILL service.

Getting Books and Articles from Other Libraries

If our Library does not have a book or article you need, you can request it through Interlibrary Loan.

We will borrow the item for you from another library, and notify you when it has arrived. Articles will be sent electronically to your ILLiad account.

You are responsible for bringing all ILL books back to the NCC Library on or before the due date.

To request an item online, create an ILLiad account and follow the instructions on the ILLiad Login page.

Google Book Search

Use Google Book Search to locate books about your topic.  Some of the books are available in full text, others must be requested through the NCC interlibrary loan service. Click on the Find in a Library link to see if the book is available in your local library system or in another institution nearby.
